I’ve been looking into getting smart lighting for my new house for a little while. But when it comes to lighting, I’m always searching for something more than just functional. I want lighting that adapts, whether that’s setting a cosy mood for movie night, creating an energising glow for a gaming session, or providing crisp clarity for late-night homework. Ideally, it should also look good enough to blend into my home without screaming for attention. (priced at now available on Govee official website and Amazon, retailing for £159.99.

That’s why the Govee Tree Floor Lamp caught my eye. As part of Govee’s expanding range of smart lighting solutions, this lamp aims to turn overlooked corners into stylish, functional spaces with its combination of dynamic RGB effects and powerful white lighting. But it’s not just about looks—it’s about adaptability. With its flexible multi-arm design, high lumen output, smart controls, and even a built-in microphone for music sync, it’s designed to be a one-stop solution for a variety of lighting needs.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing the Govee Tree Floor Lamp in different rooms and scenarios, family areas, and the gaming corner/office. Here’s how it performed.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Govee’s packaging is fairly minimalist but still protective, with the lamp parts neatly separated and wrapped to avoid scratches.

In the box you’ll find:

  • The main vertical pole

  • Three adjustable lamp arms

  • A weighted base

  • Power cable

  • Quick-start guide

Assembly is straightforward and tool-free—you simply attach the pole to the base, screw in each adjustable arm, and connect the power cable. The weighted base is reassuringly solid, so even with the arms extended, the lamp feels stable and unlikely to tip over.

Straight out of the box, the matte black finish gives off a sleek, modern vibe. It’s understated enough to blend into most interiors but still has enough presence to look intentional.

Design & Build Quality

The Govee Tree Floor Lamp is designed around a single vertical support pole with three independently controlled arms, each capped with an LED lamp head. The build quality is solid—no creaking joints or loose connections—and the adjustability is excellent:

  • 350° horizontal rotation for each arm

  • 90° vertical tilt for positioning the light exactly where you want it

  • Lamp heads adjustable between 30° and 90° for more precise focus

This makes it possible to set the lamp up in multiple configurations:

  • All arms directed upwards for wall or ceiling wash

  • One arm is angled down for reading, while the others provide an ambient glow

  • Multiple beams intersecting to highlight a corner feature

At just over 1.6m tall, it’s the perfect height for both functional and decorative lighting. The matte finish is resistant to fingerprints and blends effortlessly into both minimal and busier décor styles.

Setup & Smart Integration

Setting up the lamp’s smart features is as easy as assembling the hardware. Once powered, you connect it to the Govee Home app via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The app immediately detected the lamp, and within a minute, it was added to my list of devices.

From there, I was able to:

  • Rename the lamp for easy voice control (“Tree Floor Lamp”)

  • Assign it to a specific room in the app

  • Link it to Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands

Voice control worked flawlessly. Simple commands like “Alexa, turn on the Tree Floor Lamp” or “Google, set the Tree Floor Lamp to warm white” were recognised instantly.

Lighting Performance

One of the Govee Tree Floor Lamp’s standout qualities is its dual personality—rich, dynamic RGB for atmosphere and bright, practical white light for tasks.

White Light

With a brightness of up to 1500 lumens, this lamp is more than capable of handling functional tasks like reading, studying, or working on detailed projects. You can adjust the white temperature from a warm, cosy 2700K to a crisp, daylight-like 6500K.

In practice, this means:

  • Warm tones for relaxing evenings

  • Neutral tones for general room lighting

  • Cool tones for focus-intensive activities like writing or design work

RGB Lighting

RGB performance is where Govee shines—literally. The LEDs deliver vibrant, well-saturated colours without harshness. Whether set to a static colour or one of the animated effects, the transitions are smooth and consistent across all three lamp heads.

With each head independently controlled, you can have three entirely different colours or sync them together for a unified effect.

Music Sync — Built-In Mic for Real-Time Lighting Effects

One of my favourite features is music sync. Unlike some smart lights that rely solely on your phone’s mic, the Govee Tree Floor Lamp has its built-in microphone. This means it can respond to music, gaming audio, or even ambient sounds in real time—without needing your phone nearby.

In testing, it worked brilliantly. During a gaming session, explosions and sound effects caused dynamic colour bursts that made the experience more immersive. For parties, the lights pulsed perfectly in time with bass-heavy tracks, turning the living room into a mini dance floor.

The Govee app offers multiple music sync modes, from energetic flashes to more subtle rhythmic fades, so you can tailor the effect to the vibe you’re going for.

App Experience — Govee Home

The Govee Home app is one of the better smart lighting apps I’ve used. It’s responsive, logically laid out, and packed with options without feeling overwhelming. Key features include:

  • 64 preset scene modes (Sunset, Aurora, Ocean, Party, etc.)

  • DIY mode for creating your custom colour patterns

  • Segment control to set different colours or effects for each lamp head

  • Scheduling & timers to automate on/off times

  • Music sync settings for adjusting sensitivity and style

  • Dynamic effects lab with seasonal and holiday-themed animations

One particularly clever feature is the ability to save your favourite configurations for instant recall. For example, I saved a “Work Mode” with cool white task lighting on one head and soft ambient colour on the others, and a “Movie Mode” with warm ambient light only.

Real-World Use Cases

After using the Govee Tree Floor Lamp daily, here’s how it adapted to different situations in my home:

  1. Gaming Setup — RGB gradient wall wash behind the monitor, pulsing in sync with game audio via the built-in mic. Immersion level: high.

  2. Homework Station — One head on bright white for the desk, others in a muted warm tone for reduced eye strain.

  3. Living Room Ambience — All heads angled upwards for a soft, indirect glow during evenings.

  4. Party Mode — Mic-based music sync with energetic flashing, instantly making the space feel more lively.

  5. Accent Lighting — Single head used to highlight a plant or art piece, adding depth to the room design.

This flexibility is what sets it apart—most lamps are either decorative or practical, but the Govee Tree manages to be both.

How the Govee Tree Floor Lamp Compares

If you’re shopping for smart floor lamps, you’ll notice that Govee offers several models, and there are also competing options from other brands.

Takeaway from the Comparison

  • Govee Tree Floor Lamp wins on adjustability and multi-zone control—none of the others in this price range give you three independently controlled heads.

  • The Govee Lyra is more of a statement piece—great for pure ambience, but less practical for task lighting.

  • Philips Hue Signe offers tighter smart home integration (especially with HomeKit) but at nearly double the price.

  • The IKEA SYMFONISK combo is cost-effective if you already have smart bulbs, but lacks built-in effects, music sync, and the same lighting flexibility.

Final Verdict

Final Verdict

The Govee Tree Floor Lamp is one of the most versatile smart lamps on the market in 2025. It blends practicality (1500 lumens white light, adjustable arms) with fun (RGB effects, music sync, 64 scenes) in a sleek, modern package.

Whether you’re gaming, working, relaxing, or entertaining, it adapts instantly. At its price point, it’s hard to beat—unless you’re deep into the Apple HomeKit ecosystem, in which case you may want to look elsewhere.
