At CES 2026, Athom—the company behind the open smart home platform Homey—announced a significant expansion of its camera streaming capabilities. The update includes a new official partnership with Reolink, continued collaboration with Aqara, and broader support for modern video streaming formats. Together, these improvements further strengthen Homey’s position as a flexible, brand-agnostic smart home hub.

Homey already supports live camera streaming from several popular brands, including Google Nest, Ring, SwitchBot, Tapo, and Kasa. With the latest announcements, Athom is extending that ecosystem to make it even easier for users to view and manage camera feeds directly within the Homey interface.

“Our goal is to make Homey as open and flexible as possible,” said Stefan Witkamp, CEO of Athom. “By working with Reolink, expanding our collaboration with Aqara, and supporting more streaming formats, we’re making it easier for users to bring their cameras into one place.”

Official Reolink Integration Coming to Homey

One of the headline announcements is a new official partnership between Athom and Reolink. As part of this collaboration, an official Reolink app for Homey is currently in development.

Once released in the Homey App Store, the native integration will allow users to connect compatible Reolink cameras directly to Homey and view live video streams without relying on workarounds or third-party solutions. This marks an important step for users who already rely on Reolink’s wide range of indoor, outdoor, and battery-powered cameras and want tighter smart home integration.

Matter 1.5 Camera Support Planned with Aqara

Looking further ahead, Homey is continuing its work with Aqara to bring support for Matter 1.5, the latest version of the smart home standard. Matter 1.5 introduces native camera support, enabling features such as live video and audio streaming, two-way communication, and more advanced camera controls across certified ecosystems.

Athom has confirmed that Matter 1.5 support is planned to arrive on Homey in Q1 2026, which could unlock deeper interoperability between cameras and other Matter-enabled devices, regardless of brand.

Broader Video Streaming Format Support

In addition to new partnerships, Homey has expanded its support for common video streaming formats. The platform now supports WebRTC, RTSP, RTMP, HLS, and DASH, significantly improving compatibility with a wider variety of cameras and streaming setups.

This expanded format support makes it easier to integrate both consumer and more advanced IP cameras into Homey, even when native apps are not available.

Adding IP Cameras via Virtual Devices

For cameras that don’t yet offer native Homey support, users can take advantage of the Virtual Devices experiment. This feature enables the addition of IP cameras using a stream URL or IP address.

While functionality is more limited compared to official integrations—typically focusing on live viewing rather than advanced controls—it provides a useful option for bringing additional cameras into the Homey ecosystem.

A Growing Camera Ecosystem for Homey

With new brand partnerships, upcoming Matter 1.5 support, and broader streaming format compatibility, Athom continues to expand Homey’s camera ecosystem. The result is greater flexibility for users who want to centralise camera monitoring within a single smart home platform, without being locked into one manufacturer.

As these updates roll out in 2026, Homey is shaping up to be an increasingly compelling option for users looking to unify cameras and smart home devices under one roof.
