Night vision has always been about compromise. You either get usable monochrome clarity, or washed-out colour with noise and artifacts once the light drops. With the Night Storm X3, DVX is making a bold claim: those compromises no longer need to exist.

The X3 is DVX’s most advanced night-vision system to date, combining a dual-sensor imaging pipeline, a 20 TOPS AI Fusion Engine, and a 1500-metre laser range finder into a single rugged device designed for professionals, explorers, and serious night operators. On paper, the spec list is impressive. In practice, the Night Storm X3 is aiming to change how low-light imaging works fundamentally.

Dual Sensors, One Unified Image

At the heart of the Night Storm X3 is a completely new dual-sensor architecture. Instead of forcing one sensor to handle everything, DVX splits the workload across two highly specialised CMOS sensors.

The Luma-X monochrome sensor is built for sensitivity. It focuses exclusively on structure, edges, and micro-detail, capturing fine contrast and clean outlines even in near-total darkness. This sensor delivers true native 4K detail without relying on aggressive sharpening or digital tricks.

Working alongside it is the Chroma-X colour sensor, which restores natural colour information and ambient scene cues that are normally lost in low-light conditions. On its own, colour data at night is often noisy and unreliable—but that’s where DVX’s AI comes in.

AI Fusion Engine: Where the Magic Happens

Powering the entire imaging pipeline is DVX’s 20 TOPS AI Fusion Engine. This processor aligns both sensor feeds at the sub-pixel level, intelligently merging luminance detail from Luma-X with colour data from Chroma-X into a single, unified image.

The result is true 4K full-colour video, even in lighting conditions as low as 0.0001 lux—a level where most cameras have already given up entirely. For users who want even more detail, the system can optionally apply AI upscaling to 6K, preserving clarity without introducing obvious artefacts.

According to DVX CTO Alex Hui, the goal was to rethink the entire imaging pipeline from the ground up:

“With the Night Storm X3, our goal was to rethink every step of the imaging pipeline and remove the limitations users have come to expect. The result is a system that preserves colour in conditions where standard cameras fail and maintains clarity at distances where most devices lose structure.”

Seeing Further Without Being Seen

Night vision often relies on infrared illumination—but traditional IR systems can emit a faint red glow, revealing the user’s position. DVX addresses this with an upgraded 950nm invisible infrared system.

Operating completely outside visible detection for both humans and animals, the X3’s IR module delivers sharp monochrome visibility up to 1500 metres with four selectable intensity levels. This makes it suitable for everything from long-range spotting and wildlife observation to hunting, property monitoring, and discreet field operations.

When IR is active, the system seamlessly transitions into high-contrast black-and-white imaging, maintaining clarity without sacrificing situational awareness.

Built-In Precision Rangefinding

The Night Storm X3 isn’t just about seeing—it’s also about understanding distance. A built-in Laser Range Finder provides fast, accurate measurements up to 1500 metres, making it invaluable for navigation, observation, and target assessment.

A digital crosshair overlay integrates rangefinding directly into the viewing experience, reducing guesswork when operating in low visibility or unfamiliar terrain.

Designed for Long Sessions in the Field

DVX has clearly designed the X3 for real-world use, not just spec sheets.

A close-to-eye electronic viewfinder provides a comfortable, immersive viewing experience for extended sessions, while illuminated control buttons ensure reliable operation in complete darkness. Stabilisation is handled via a combination of electronic and gyro-based systems, helping maintain a steady image even when handheld.

Battery life is another strong point. The integrated 5100 mAh battery delivers up to 24 hours of operation with IR disabled, and fast charging brings the device to 80% in just 45 minutes, or a full charge in around an hour.

Display, Storage, and Connectivity

The Night Storm X3 features a 3-inch display with a 360 × 640 resolution and eight brightness levels, making it usable across a wide range of lighting conditions. A picture-in-picture mode allows users to digitally zoom in on distant subjects while keeping the wider scene visible—particularly useful for tracking movement.

Connectivity is handled via built-in Wi-Fi with companion app support, alongside USB-C for charging and data transfer. Media is stored externally via TF cards, supporting capacities from 4 GB up to 512 GB, with optional audio recording. There’s no internal storage, keeping things simple and flexible.

Built to Survive the Elements

Durability is crucial for a device designed for nighttime operations. The X3 carries an IP65 rating, protecting it against dust and water ingress, and is rated to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C.

A built-in tactical light with constant and strobe modes adds another layer of utility, while a standard 1/4-inch tripod mount allows for hands-free or fixed-position use.

Physically, the device measures 154 × 229 × 68 mm and weighs 750 grams—substantial, but reasonable given the technology packed inside.

The Team and the Mission

The Night Storm X3 is the result of years of iteration following the success of the Night Storm X1, a project that raised over $1.7 million and established DVX as a serious player in advanced night optics.

Rather than chasing incremental upgrades, DVX’s team of engineers, explorers, and field testers set out to redefine what night vision could be. The X3 reflects that philosophy—designed by people who operate in the dark, for people who genuinely depend on it.

Availability

The DVX Night Storm X3 will launch on Kickstarter, with Super Early Bird pricing available to early backers before the full retail price is revealed.
