Review: Of the late Avicii with “Avicii Invector” game

AVICII Invector title

Hello There Games, in collaboration with Wired Productions and the late DJ superstar Avicii, it just about to launched Avicii Invector, a rhythm game dedicated to the late Swedish artist, here is the review.

The title will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on the 10th December 2019 and for the Nintendo Switch in the New Year, get your fingers ready as we embarked on this journey into space at the beat rate with some of Tim Bergling’s greatest hits like Without You, Wake Me Up and Lay Me Down.

Avicii Invector screenshots

Avicii Invector comes with a gameplay that is very reminiscent of the rhythm game par excellence, Guitar Hero: our spaceship moves on a non-linear score and we will have to press the buttons corresponding to the notes that will reach us in time. The peculiarity of the game, however, is that each level is composed of 3 sections: a part in which the score appears on the horizontal plane in front of our spaceship, another in which we will move along the walls of a triangular prism with notes place on all three faces and finally a free flight section in which we will have to pass through luminous circles.

Apart from the three levels of difficulty (easy, medium and difficult), which widen the number and type of notes, the levels in Avicii Invector do affect the gaming experience that remains, given a fairly high overall difficulty, always very satisfying.

Tracklist

  1. Can’t Catch me
  2. Pure Grinding
  3. What Would I Change it to
  4. The Nights (Avicii by Avicii)
  5. Waiting For Love
  6. Gonna Love Ya
  7. You be Love
  8. Friend of Mine
  9. Sunset Jesus
  10. Fade Into Darkness
  11. Wake Me Up
  12. Lonely Together
  13. Without You
  14. Hey Brother
  15. Levels
  16. I Could Be The One
  17. You Make Me
  18. Lay Me Down
  19. For a Better Day
  20. Broken Arrows – M-22 Remix
  21. True Believer
  22. Talk To Myself
  23. Heaven
  24. Tough Love
  25. Fades Away

The aim of the player is to reach a certain percentage of notes to complete the level and at the same time make the highest score to climb the global rankings or just to beat his friends in the local split-screen multiplayer.

Technically, the sound compartment of Avicii Invector is the real strength and could not otherwise be seen the soundtrack composed by the most successful tracks of the Swedish DJ. On the graphic section, instead, we settle on good levels, with rather inspired backgrounds, and furthermore, we did not find any significant drop in frame rates during the more hectic phases that could ruin the gaming experience.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Hello There Games and Avicii has given life to a title that encompasses all the spirit of the late Tim Bergling. Avicii Invector is not just a rhythm game that tests the skills of players but is above all a tribute, the last concert in the company of the great Avicii.

This game reminds me of Guitar Hero crossed with Tempest 2000 that had a child, and I love it.

Pricing at £15.99 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and with 25% of the game’s royalties will go directly to the Tim Bergling Foundation.

Score of 8.7/10
