Homey Just Got Matter 1.5 Certified: What It Means for Your Smart Home

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has officially granted Matter 1.5 certification to Homey.

Securing this certification puts Homey’s Matter implementation on the exact same official, validated tier as industry giants like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung.

Which Devices Are Certified?

The Matter 1.5 certification spans across Homey’s core hardware and self-hosted lineup:

• Homey Pro (2023–2026 models)

• Homey Pro mini

• Homey Self-Hosted Server

Whether you run a dedicated hardware hub or prefer hosting your own local server setup, you get the exact same compliance and reliability validated by the CSA.

Thread Out of the Box vs. Thread on Your Network

Matter devices generally communicate via two main routes: standard Wi-Fi/Ethernet or Thread—a low-power, self-healing mesh network built specifically for smart home gear.

• On Homey Pro & Homey Pro mini: Both hubs feature a built-in Thread Border Router. This means Matter-over-Thread light bulbs, sensors, and plugs can pair directly to your Homey without requiring an extra bridge or third-party dongle.

• On Homey Self-Hosted Server: You can pair Matter devices seamlessly using the Homey Mobile App, provided you already have an active Thread Border Router (such as an Apple TV 4K, HomePod, or Nest Hub) on your local network.
