With the Huawei Mate 40 Pro using an aluminium frame, and the smartphone is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, the Mate 40 Pro weighs 212g, but the weight of the smartphone is distributed very well, making the Mate 40 Pro feel lighter than it really is.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro comes with a 6.76-inch display with a resolution of 2772 x 1344 pixels, using an OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz.  With images on the Mate 40 Pro are sharp, with some vivid and well-calibrated colours, you can use the display in any light conditions.

Sound

Huawei Mate 40 Pro finally comes with a set of stereo speakers that sound great. The phone has a loud, clear sound with some bass. I love what this pair of speakers can really do, the microphones on the Mate 40 Pro, they hear very well, even impressing me with the audio quality during calls.

Battery Life and Charging

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro comes with a 4400mAh battery, which will easily carry a day and a half of use, charging is done in 45 minutes with the 66W charger in the package. We also have 50W wireless charging and 5W reversible charging support, perfect for some wireless headphones or a wireless charging smartwatch.

Software

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro runs with EMUI 11 applied over Android 10. Everything moves fast, fluidly, with no lag marks or slowing down. EMUI has changed a lot with the last two major versions: 10 and 11. In the spring I was arguing that EMUI 10.5 is the experience I wanted on a Huawei, but EMUI 11 is even better.

Huawei AppGallery has also received a lot of new apps for the new smartphone, now it has a much more complete suite of Huawei apps here, including Petal Maps, Huawei Docs, etc. We also have Celia, Huawei’s voice assistant.

Conclusions

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro has an excellent camera, great performance, provided by the Kirin 9000 processor manufactured on a 5nm architecture, pleasant sound and very fast charging, at 66W on the wire and 50W wireless.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is an almost the perfect phone, it has only one major problem: the lack of Google services, which is not the fault of Huawei at all. I can do without GSM for most of the time, but I don’t think everyone could do it.
