I recently had the opportunity to review the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro, a portable smart projector that aims to provide a high-quality home theatre experience in a compact and convenient package. As someone who enjoys both movies and gaming, I was excited to put it to the test.

XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro

Design and Build Quality: The MoGo 2 Pro has a sleek and modern cylindrical design that looks great in its stylish Grey colour with a soft-touch finish, giving it a premium feel. It has a sturdy build quality and feels solid in the hand, with a sliding lens cover that protects the lens from dust and scratches. The top of the projector has control buttons for easy access, and there’s a convenient focus wheel to adjust the image’s sharpness.

As the first XGIMI projector to feature ISA 2.0 technology, the MoGo 2 Pro offers uninterrupted automatic keystone correction and autofocus, providing users with a smoother and more immersive viewing experience. After adjusting the projector’s position, ISA 2.0 can achieve multi-angle automatic keystone correction and focus adjustment without the user needing to do anything, whether it’s horizontal or vertical projection, ensuring users see the clearest and most suitable projected image.

Intelligent eye protection is another important upgrade of ISA 2.0. Designed for households with children and pets, when they pass by or stop in front of the projection screen, the image automatically dims to prevent glare from entering their eyes.

ISA 2.0 also includes functions previously available in ISA 1.0, such as Intelligent Screen Alignment and Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance.

Smart ISA 1.0

The MoGo 2 comes with Intelligent Screen Adaption (ISA), developed by XGIMI, which simplifies the setup process and makes the projector more user-friendly, providing an optimised view in seconds. The features included in ISA 1.0 still lead the industry, with Intelligent Screen Alignment automatically aligning the projected image to the edge of the screen, Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance allowing the projector to avoid obstacles during the correction, Automatic Keystone Correction performing correction within ±40° on the horizontal and vertical axes, and Automatic Focus providing a clear image without manual adjustment.

Smart – Android TV 11

The MoGo 2 series runs on Google’s latest smart TV operating system which provides a fluid user experience and offers more personalised recommendations, increased customisation and higher security and privacy protection. It comes with a built-in Google Assistant, which allows for voice commands and easy access to various streaming apps like Disney Plus, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video. The Wi-Fi connectivity is reliable, and streaming is smooth without any lag or buffering issues. But Netflix has to be sideloaded onto the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro.

Performance: The MoGo 2 Pro’s performance is one of its standout features. It uses DLP technology to produce a crisp and sharp image with a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The brightness rating of 400 ANSI lumens is sufficient for dark or moderately lit rooms but may struggle in brightly lit environments. The colours are vivid and accurate, and the contrast ratio is decent, producing deep blacks and bright whites.

The MoGo 2 Pro’s portability is one of its highlights. It can be used with the main plug or a 65w power pack to make it even more portable, making it perfect for outdoor movie nights or on-the-go entertainment. The projector also has a built-in Bluetooth speaker that delivers decent audio quality for its size. However, for a truly immersive audio experience, an external sound system is recommended.

Ease of Use: Setting up the MoGo 2 Pro is a breeze, with an auto keystone correction feature that adjusts the image distortion caused by the angle of projection, ensuring a perfectly rectangular image. The remote control is straightforward and intuitive, with dedicated buttons for volume control and quick access to the main functions.

Pros:

  • Crisp and sharp image quality with accurate colours
  • Android TV OS with Google Assistant for easy streaming and voice commands
  • Portable design and Bluetooth speaker
  • Auto keystone correction for easy setup
  • Solid build quality and sleek design

Cons:

  • Limited brightness may struggle in brightly lit environments
  • No built-in battery for being totally portable
  • Sideloaded Netflix delivers lower resolution

Conclusion: Overall, the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro is a feature-packed portable smart projector that delivers impressive performance in a compact form factor. Its image quality, convenience, and ease of use make it an excellent option for movie and gaming enthusiasts who want a portable and versatile entertainment solution. While it may have some limitations in terms of brightness in direct sunlight, the MoGo 2 Pro is a solid choice for those who want a compact projector that can deliver an immersive home theatre experience.
