MediaTek has officially unveiled its high-end Dimensity 9300 chipset, marking a direct challenge to Qualcomm’s recently introduced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform.

Joe Chen, President of MediaTek, lauded the Dimensity 9300 as their most potent flagship chip to date, delivering a substantial boost in raw computing power to high-end smartphones through their pioneering All Big Core design. This innovative architecture, combined with their enhanced on-chip AI Processing Unit, promises to usher in a new era of generative AI applications, as developers push the boundaries with edge AI and hybrid AI computing capabilities.

Within the Dimensity 9300, MediaTek’s next-generation APU 790 AI processor takes centre stage, significantly enhancing generative AI performance and energy efficiency for faster, more secure edge computing. The APU 790 achieves a twofold increase in integer and floating-point operations performance while reducing power consumption by 45%. Through the application of the Transformer model for operator acceleration, the APU 790 achieves processing speeds eight times faster than the previous generation, enabling image generation within a mere second using Stable Diffusion. MediaTek has also pioneered mixed-precision INT4 quantization technology, which, when combined with their NeuroPilot memory hardware compression, optimizes memory bandwidth utilization and substantially reduces memory requirements for large AI models. The APU 790 is equipped to support NeuroPilot Fusion, enabling continuous LoRA low-rank adaptation and accommodating large language models with parameters ranging from 1B to 33B. As part of MediaTek’s rich AI ecosystem, the Dimensity 9300 seamlessly integrates cutting-edge mainstream large language models like Meta Llama 2, Baichuan 2, Baidu AI LLM, and more, empowering developers to deploy multi-modal generative AI applications efficiently, offering users generative AI experiences spanning text, images, and music.

With the latest flagship GPU from Arm, the Arm Immortali-G720, the Dimensity 9300 supercharges mobile gaming experiences. The chipset boasts an impressive 46% boost in GPU performance while maintaining the power consumption levels of the Dimensity 9200. Notably, the Dimensity 9300 also achieves a 40% reduction in GPU power consumption at equivalent performance levels to its predecessor, providing users with a substantial performance upgrade without sacrificing battery life. The fusion of the chipset’s high-performance octa-core CPU design with MediaTek’s second-generation hardware ray-tracing engine ensures that smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9300 deliver console-level global illumination effects at a seamless 60 FPS. Furthermore, this potent chipset empowers users to seamlessly multitask, enabling activities such as gaming and video streaming simultaneously or watching videos while playing games.

Reimagining mobile photography and video capture, the Dimensity 9300 combines a low-power AI-ISP with always-on HDR capabilities, supporting resolutions up to 4K at 60 frames per second (fps). The chipset also facilitates cinematic mode with real-time bokeh tracking for professional-quality bokeh enhancements at 4K and provides AI Noise Reduction (AI-NR) and AI processing for RAW photos and videos. In addition, the Dimensity 9300 is prepared to support the new Ultra HDR format in Android 14, marking a significant advancement in mobile photography, and enhancing vibrancy while ensuring compatibility with the universally-supported JPEG format. Elevating the photography experience further, the Dimensity 9300 incorporates groundbreaking ambient light adaptive HDR recovery technology.

The Dimensity 9300’s display system harnesses the chipset’s robust on-device AI capabilities to detect primary objects and background images in real time. Paired with the MiraVision Picture Quality (PQ) engine, it dynamically adjusts optimal contrast, sharpness, and colour for primary objects, enriching the overall image with a sense of depth and creating lifelike video experiences comparable to flagship DTVs available today.

Given the paramount importance of connectivity in the user experience, the Dimensity 9300 offers support for Wi-Fi 7, delivering speeds up to 6.5 Gbps, and incorporates MediaTek Xtra RangeTM Technology to enhance long-range connectivity. Additionally, through MediaTek’s Multi-Link Hotspot technology, the Dimensity 9300 elevates smartphone tethering speeds by up to 3X when compared to competitive solutions.
