Smart-lighting specialist Govee is leaning hard into seasonal spectacle this autumn, teaming up with 90s horror royalty Sarah Michelle Gellar for its latest campaign: “Turn Up the Spooky. Slay Halloween.”

Best known for facing down vampires and supernatural terrors on screen, Gellar fronts a campaign that shows how ambient smart fixtures can turn a standard suburban home into something straight out of a horror set—relying on atmospheric lighting rather than plastic skeletons.

Cinematic Lighting from Guttering to Garden

Rather than relying on one-off novelty decorations, Govee’s approach focuses on building layered, whole-property lighting schemes:

  • Architectural Definition: Permanent Outdoor Lights mounted along fascias and rooflines frame the building and establish the primary colour scheme.

  • Accent & Porch Features: Outdoor String Lights and smart bulbs add character to porches, verandas, and overhanging trees.

  • Ground-Level Depth: Smart pathway and wall lights connect the scheme through driveways, front gardens, and borders to avoid isolated hotspots.

Gellar’s own design tip emphasises contrast over sheer output: “Instead of covering every inch of the exterior in light, choose one architectural or landscape feature to be the focus, such as the roofline, a tree, or the front facade,” she noted. “Leaving some areas darker will make the lit areas feel more dramatic.”

Crucially for those wary of single-purpose hardware, the outdoor range is designed to remain in place all year round, shifting from eerie October palettes to warm white garden illumination or festive winter themes via the app.

Under the Bonnet: DreamView and AI Bot 2.0

Bringing different outdoor fixtures into a cohesive display usually requires tedious manual scene-building. Govee tackles this with two core software features:

  • DreamView Sync: Govee’s ecosystem-wide sync technology groups disparate lights into a single responsive environment, aligning colours, dynamic transitions, and sound-reactive audio effects across the entire exterior.

  • AI Lighting Bot 2.0: Built to streamline setup, the updated bot accepts text, voice, and image prompts. Users can type descriptors like “moonlit and mysterious”, “classic and dramatic”, or “playful and family-friendly” to automatically generate multi-device lighting themes without manually programming individual colour palettes.

The campaign is live now, with Govee’s full outdoor lineup available directly via Govee.com and major electronics retailers.
