Oppo today announced new innovations in flash charging, 5G and IoT at Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS). Marking a new era in mobile charging technology, OPPO launched The Flash Initiative, where organisations can licence OPPO’s pioneering VOOC flash charging technology to bring faster charging to every area of consumers’ lives. OPPO also revealed the 5G CPE, Omni, and launched Wireless Air Charging for the OPPO X 2021, delivering up to 7.5W of charging power.

Introducing the 5G CPE Omni

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System, the 5G CPE, Omni, aims to make homes smarter and more connected than ever before. Omni turns 5G signals into stable, high-speed Wi-Fi connections through two proprietary antenna systems. The O-Reserve 5G antenna system uses the Sub-6GHz 5G spectrum, choosing four of its eight antennas at a time to get the best possible signal, while the O-Motion 360° technology can fully rotate its antennae, automatically ensuring the CPE is positioned for optimum 5G millimetre Wave signal reception.

OPPO, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Ericsson recently completed successful tests of 5G millimetre wave technology with the Omni, achieving downlink speeds of 4.06Gbps.

By plugging in a 5G SIM card into the device, it converts the 5G mobile signal into a stable Wi-Fi connection, allowing users to enjoy the benefits of 5G in the home, office or public space – meaning you can game, stream and download with greater ease than ever before.

At MWCS, Henry Tang, Vice President of OPPO Research Institute, said: “At OPPO, we firmly believe that 5G will change how we all live. As coverage and capacity expand, we’ll see new applications flourishing in numerous areas, bringing unexpected experiences to consumers. We’re already involved in the development of a global 5G standard, and will continue to explore new 5G devices and deployments, from TV to CPE to AR.”

Leading the charge – OPPO’s new Flash Initiative

OPPO also announced The Flash Initiative, which will bring OPPO’s VOOC flash charging to vehicles, public spaces and new devices, helping to provide access to fast charging in even more scenarios. New partnerships with Anker, FAW-Volkswagen and NXP Semiconductors will allow these visionary organisations to licence OPPO’s pioneering VOOC flash charging technologies.

Speaking at MWCS today, Adler Feng, Senior Director of Intellectual Property at OPPO said: “The Flash Initiative reflects OPPO’s belief in human-centric technologies that make a difference in people’s everyday lives. And thanks to our new partners, our proprietary technologies can reach more people than ever before. This is a vital step in freeing consumers to use their devices however they want, no matter what they need to do or where in the world they are.”

Technology certification laboratory CTTL (China Telecommunication Technology Laboratory) will test and certify any partner products made with VOOC flash charging technology. As one of China’s largest tech certification labs, CTTL has led the way in setting safety standards for fast charging technology and has already granted OPPO a five-star rating for its VOOC Flash Charging.

OPPO X 2021 – featuring new Wireless Air Charging

Following the recent announcement of the OPPO X 2021, with a screen that unrolls from 6.7 to 7.4 inches, OPPO has also revealed a further innovation in the concept phone: Wireless Air Charging, to make charging the phone as easy as possible.

Thanks to magnetic resonance technology, the OPPO X 2021 will begin charging as soon as it’s within 10cm of its charging mat, which can deliver up to 7.5W of charging power – users can even play games while it charges.
