OnePlus has just made a groundbreaking announcement on the global stage, introducing its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus Open, which is a foldable marvel. This marks a great leap for OnePlus as they enter the foldable market, armed with an impressive array of features and specifications that promise to revolutionize the way we use smartphones.
The name “Open” symbolizes more than just a new folding design; it represents OnePlus’s willingness to explore the potential enabled by cutting-edge technology solutions. The OnePlus Open offers unparalleled hardware, innovative software features, and services tailored to its unique form factor, staying true to the OnePlus philosophy of “Never Settle.”
Kinder Liu, the President and COO of OnePlus expressed their excitement, stating, “With the launch of OnePlus Open, we are thrilled to be bringing an uncompromising flagship foldable experience to users worldwide. The OnePlus Open will be a true flagship that is set to revolutionize the foldable market.”
OnePlus has masterfully combined extraordinary portability with incredible durability in the OnePlus Open. It inherits the brand’s signature design ethos, characterized by industrial minimalism and elegant sophistication. The phone is available in the striking Emerald Dusk colorway, exclusive to the OnePlus flagship series. It features a matte-frosted glass rear that shimmers in different lighting conditions, creating an elegant gradient of light and shadows.
The phone’s design also pays homage to luxury watches, with a depth vacuum separating the camera sensors and the exterior glass dome. A light-reflective CD pattern on the dial adds a touch of sophistication.
OnePlus has introduced its iconic alert slider to phablet foldables for the first time. This slider has been re-engineered to fit the phone’s compact 5.8mm folding body. It offers convenient one-handed operation, and its interior module has been made more compact, saving significant space compared to previous models.
Despite its slim profile, the OnePlus Open remains robust and durable. Its innovative material choices and mechanical design, with just 69 parts compared to the industry average of over a hundred, make it highly efficient. The patented Flexion Hinge ensures space for high-performance hardware inside.
The phone has undergone rigorous testing and is certified for reliable folding by the international certification institute TÜV Rheinland. It endured extreme environmental tests and a whopping 1,000,000 test-folds, equivalent to over 100 folds per day, demonstrating its durability over a decade.
One of the key challenges with foldable phones is creasing on the display. The OnePlus Open tackles this issue with micro-openings of 0.15mm integrated into the carbon fibre display support structure. These, along with the 8-axis turn mechanism and the Flexion hinge, minimize creasing even after extensive use.
The OnePlus Open also boasts a powerful camera system. It features a triple main camera setup, with a 48MP primary camera, a 64MP periscope telephoto with 6x in-sensor lossless zoom, and a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera. In addition, it offers two selfie cameras, a 20MP sensor on the main display, and a 32MP camera on the cover screen.
Notably, the OnePlus Open debuts Sony’s LYT-T808 image sensor, featuring a pixel-stacked technology that enhances light intake and storage, resulting in brighter and clearer images. The phone supports focal lengths from 0.6X to 10X, and its 64MP telephoto camera with OIS allows for up to 120X Ultra Res Zoom.
OnePlus has partnered with Hasselblad to improve the portrait mode, ensuring high-quality depth-tracking, bokeh, and flare effects, akin to Hasselblad’s renowned XCD lenses.
The OnePlus Open offers an immersive entertainment experience with dual 2K 120Hz fluid AMOLED ProXDR displays. The cover screen measures 6.31 inches, with a high brightness mode of up to 1400nits. It’s shielded by Ceramic Guard, which is 20% more impact-resistant than Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
The 7.82-inch main display provides an 89.6% screen-to-body ratio and offers an equally high-quality experience. To further enhance content immersion, the OnePlus Open supports Dolby Vision® video playback. It boasts a triple spatial speaker setup and a proprietary spatial audio algorithm to provide three-dimensional sound.
In terms of efficiency and productivity, the OnePlus Open runs OxygenOS 13.2, which introduces the Open Canvas feature. This enables multi-window operations and allows users to stretch and resize active windows as desired. It supports up to four app windows simultaneously and offers preset configurations for quick access.
The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, features 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 512GB of UFS 4.0 ROM, and a 4,805mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC charging. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and dual 5G connectivity for seamless and fast connections.
With all these features and specifications, the OnePlus Open promises to deliver a fast and smooth foldable experience like no other. This innovative smartphone truly represents OnePlus’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design.
At an average of 239 grams, the OnePlus Open’s weight is on par with that of an iPhone 14 Pro Max (240 grams). Its dimensions measure a mere 5.8mm when unfolded and 11.7mm when folded, offering the convenience of a single-display phablet smartphone and the capabilities of a professional-grade tablet without adding extra bulk.

Approximately the size of a carton of milk or a medium-sized apple
The phone’s remarkable portability is a result of structural optimizations and material innovations applied to the hinge, display, and cameras. Every effort has been made to ensure that, despite its lightness, the OnePlus Open maintains its exceptional durability. The more we trimmed weight, the sturdier the device became.
Flexion Hinge:
The hinge features a single-spine architecture, which enhances integration between components and results in a more robust structure compared to the conventional three-part spine found in most foldable devices. This innovative approach reduces the number of required hinge components to just 69, as opposed to the standard 100+, without sacrificing quality. This reduction significantly lightens the hinge and, consequently, the overall weight of the device.
Display:
The OnePlus Open employs Ceramic Guard, an exclusive ion-exchange-treated glass-ceramic, for added toughness on the cover screen. This material is 20% more resilient than Corning Gorilla Glass Victus of the same size and thickness. The primary display benefits from three layers of protection, including Ultra-Thin Glass, TPU for impact resistance, and an anti-reflection screen protector, ensuring robust defence against daily wear and tear. These advancements permit a more compact folded device and a weight reduction of 5 grams.
Camera:
The OnePlus Open introduces Sony’s innovative LYTIA “Pixel Stacked” image sensor, a first in foldable smartphones. Despite its compact size, the 1/1.43-inch “Pixel Stacked” CMOS sensor delivers image quality on par with the 1-inch Sony IMX989 or the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Additionally, a custom OV64B telephoto image sensor, designed specifically for the phone’s slim and lightweight design, further reduces the sensor’s size by 0.4mm, resulting in a 12% overall size reduction.

OnePlus Open has not been compromised despite its compact-slimness. Equipped with a triple camera set up on par with the best of phablet-size single-display flagships, rest assured that every cherishable moment can be captured in pristine clarity
Moreover, the OnePlus Open incorporates cutting-edge materials like proprietary cobalt molybdenum alloy and titanium alloy, which are not only lighter but also more durable than the 316L surgical-grade stainless steel used in most foldable phones. These lightweight materials are complemented by proprietary metals, including cobalt molybdenum alloy and zirconium-based amorphous alloy, used in aerospace technologies to enhance durability and minimize the device’s size and weight.
With the 64MP Telephoto Camera with 3X Optical Zoom and 6X In-Sensor Zoom, to deliver a flagship-level photography experience on the OnePlus Open, OnePlus is introducing a 64MP telephoto camera featuring 6X lossless in-sensor zoom capabilities, extending to an impressive 120x Ultra Res Zoom. This remarkable sensor boasts a 1/2-inch size, making it the most extensive telephoto sensor ever incorporated into a foldable device, surpassing the typical sensors found in traditional candy-bar flagship smartphones.
At 70mm, this telephoto lens strikes an ideal balance, providing one of the best focal lengths for portrait photography, while the 64MP camera ensures the capture of images with exquisite detail. The periscope zoom design, coupled with custom D-cut modifications on the sensor’s exterior, empowers us to equip this slender device with a high-quality telephoto camera. These enhancements allow for an impressive 23% more light intake compared to a non-customized setup, resulting in outstanding photographic performance.

Design
The iconic OnePlus Alert Slider makes its debut on a phablet foldable for the first time. It has been meticulously re-engineered to fit seamlessly into the OnePlus Open’s compact 5.8mm folding body. Several optimizations have been undertaken in both external design and internal structure.
The Alert Slider button’s size has been increased, and its position within the middle frame has been adjusted for improved one-handed operation. The internal module’s height and width have been reduced by 1.7mm and 1mm, respectively, in comparison to the single-screen flagship OnePlus 11, resulting in a 42% increase in available internal space.
The OnePlus Open uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, With a generous 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, the OnePlus Open’s performance soars to new heights, bolstered by OnePlus’s exclusive RAM-Vita feature.
This mobile platform provides out-of-the-box support for Wi-Fi 7 and dual 5G dual SIM connectivity, ensuring lightning-fast and seamless connections no matter where you are. The OnePlus Open features a specialized heat dissipation system designed for foldable devices, targeting heat dissipation from critical sources such as the chipset, display, cameras, modem, and more. This innovative system keeps the phone cool and responsive even during demanding tasks and resource-intensive applications.
The OnePlus Open: A Game-Changer in Convenience with Its Rapid Charging and Impressive Battery Life
The device boasts a substantial 4,805mAh battery that can be fully charged from 1% to 100% in approximately 42 minutes. Even with its high-performance capabilities, it delivers more than a full day of typical usage on a single charge.
