Meet Krafted Edge: The 12mm Laptop Power Bank You Can Actually Repair

Power banks designed for laptops usually have a major design flaw: they’re heavy, bulky bricks that roll around in your bag and inevitably become expensive paperweights once their lithium-ion cells degrade.

British hardware startup Krafted wants to change that. Fresh off a successful Kickstarter campaign, the brand has officially launched Edge, an ultra-slim 20,000 mAh external battery designed to slide directly beneath your laptop—and stay out of the landfill when its cells reach end-of-life.

Form Factor: Ditching the “Brick”

Rather than opting for the standard rectangular prism, Krafted engineered the Edge to mirror the footprint of modern notebooks. It measures 270 × 190 mm, tapering from 12.88 mm down to just 8.5 mm at its thinnest edge.

Instead of taking up valuable café table space, the Edge sits flat under any 13-to-16-inch laptop or slips into the same sleeve compartment alongside your machine. The chassis pairs aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium alloy with an OBP-certified ocean-plastic top panel, finished off with an integrated braided USB-C cable featuring magnetic stowage and plant-based leather accents.

Built for the Right-to-Repair Era

The real standout feature isn’t just the profile—it’s the internal architecture.

Most power banks are glued shut; once the cells degrade after two or three years of heavy cycle use, you toss the entire device. The Edge utilises a modular battery cassette housing four 5,000 mAh cells. When the battery health eventually drops, you replace only the cell module, keeping the casing, charging controller, and circuitry intact.
