OnePlus has officially lifted the lid on one of the headline upgrades coming to its upcoming “ultimate value flagship,” the OnePlus 15R — and selfie fans, this one’s for you. With the launch just five days away, the company has confirmed that the 15R will ship with the most advanced front-facing camera ever seen on an R-Series device, pairing high-resolution hardware with meaningful software improvements.

A Big Leap for Selfie Performance
For the first time in the R-Series lineup, the OnePlus 15R moves to a 32MP selfie camera, doubling the pixel count of the OnePlus 13R’s 16MP sensor. The headline upgrade doesn’t stop at resolution: the new front camera also supports autofocus, a feature never before included on an R-Series handset. This should translate into sharper, more accurately focused selfies, whether you’re shooting close-ups or group shots.
Video capabilities see an equally dramatic bump. The OnePlus 15R becomes the first in its class to record 4K video at up to 30fps using the selfie camera, a massive step up from the 1080p limit on the previous generation. For vloggers, video callers, and social creators, the upgrade is likely to be hugely appealing.
Powered by the DetailMax Engine
The enhanced selfie system joins previously confirmed photography features, including the DetailMax Engine — a computational imaging suite debuted on the flagship OnePlus 15. That means the 15R inherits advanced algorithms such as Ultra Clear Mode, Clear Burst, and the Clear Night Engine, all designed to extract more detail, improve low-light performance, and deliver cleaner, sharper images across scenarios.
On the rear camera setup, users will also get support for 4K 120fps recording, ideal for high-frame-rate action or cinematic slow motion. All of this imaging power will be showcased on a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED display, ensuring clarity and smoothness whether you’re shooting or viewing content.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Leads the Charge
Under the hood, the OnePlus 15R lands another major first: it will be the first smartphone globally to ship with the co-defined and co-optimised Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. This next-generation SoC is expected to bring a significant performance uplift in gaming, multitasking, AI-driven features, and overall system efficiency.
Connectivity gets its own set of upgrades thanks to the OnePlus G2 Wi-Fi chip, engineered to maintain strong wireless performance in congested or challenging environments. The dedicated Touch Response Chip also promises faster input detection, giving the 15R an edge in latency-sensitive tasks such as mobile gaming.
A Massive Battery Built for Longevity

Powering all this is a 7,400 mAh battery — not only the largest battery ever fitted to a OnePlus device, but one designed to withstand harsh temperature conditions while retaining at least 80% capacity after four years of use. For users who push their phones hard or spend long days away from a charger, this could be a major selling point.
Launching 17th December
The OnePlus 15R will be unveiled in full on 17th December, during a livestreamed event from Bengaluru, India. With its blend of flagship-level performance, advanced imaging features, and big-battery durability, it’s shaping up to be one of the most intriguing R-Series releases to date.
